Dr Gerard Ee Hock Kim inducted to the Global Accounting Hall of Fame

Dr Gerard Ee Hock Kim is a public figure championing social service rights and issues in Singapore. He is the son of the late Ee Peng Liang, a Singaporean philanthropist and the Father of Charity in Singapore.

Dr Ee was born in 1949, and became a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales in 1972. In 1974, he began his career as an accountant, becoming a practicing auditor in 1976. Dr Ee was made a Partner of Ernst & Young in 1986, where he remained in the position until his retirement on 30 June 2005.

In his active years, he served in various public roles, including being a Nominated Member of Parliament from 1997 to 2002. Dr Ee was appointed the President of the National Council of Social Service (NCSS), and the Chairman of the Public Transport Council. He also was a member of the National Medical Ethics Committee; the Governing Council of Singapore Institute of Management; and held chairperson positions for the Council for Third Age, Medifund Advisory Council, ITE College East Advisory Council, Hai Sing Catholic School Management Committee and the North East Community Development Council.

Two weeks into his retirement from Ernst &Young, Dr. Ee was called upon by the Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan to help restore public confidence in the National Kidney Foundation (NKF). For the next seven years, Dr Ee worked hard to improve NKF’s governance and accountability standards and restore public confidence in the charity. Mr Ee was officially appointed as NKF chairman in July, 2005.

Dr Ee was the Former President of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA). and is was also a Board Member of the Singapore Accountancy Commission, under the ambit of the Ministry of Finance. Other positions include Board Member of the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority and Council Member of the Accounting Standards Council. On an international front, Dr Ee served as a Council Member of the ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA).

Dr Ee was also the Chairman, Changi General Hospital, Eastern Health Alliance and SIM University (UniSIM) Board of Trustees. He was also the Chancellor of UniSIM. He was appointed as Chairman of Tiger Airways in 2009.

Dr Ee is currently on the Board of MOH Holdings Pte Ltd and Chairs its Audit Review Committee. He is also the Chairman of the Agency for Integrated Care, Chairman of the Charities Council, Member of the Steering Committee of SG Cares and Group Chairman of Canossian Mission Singapore.

Dr. Ee was awarded the Public Service Medal (PBM) in 1993, the Public Service Star (BBM) in 2003 and the Meritorious Service Medal (PJG) in 2007. This year he is awarded the Distinguished Service Order (DSO). He is a Fellow Chartered Accountant of Singapore, and Fellow of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

The Institute of Certified Management Accountants is honoured to induct Dr Gerard Ee to the Global Accounting Hall of Fame® for his services to the profession in Singapore.
